It is used to determine the color fastness of all types and structures of textile materials, plastics, paper, and similar products to artificial light sources (XENON) that represent natural daylight.

The device is also used for testing white (bleached or optically polished) materials. The sample to be tested is exposed to artificial light under predetermined conditions along with a set of blue wool references. The color fastness of the test piece is then determined by comparing the change in color of the test piece with the reference used.

The screen is loaded with test methods according to many different standards, and new standards can be easily entered. A USB computer communication port is included as standard. A computer, printer, and application program are offered as optional extras.
